Changunarayan Municipality to Tax Manufacturing and Export of Clay Bricks

January 19: Changunarayan Municipality has imposed tax on the production and export of clay bricks.
A 12th meeting of the Municipal Assembly took the decision to this effect as part of its strategy to expand tax coverage/base.

While brick kiln entrepreneurs pay a certain amount of annual tax, entrepreneurs involved in manufacturing, sale and export of clay bricks have been operating their businesses without paying tax for a long time.

The municipal assembly took the decision to tax manufacturing and export of the clay bricks to bring clay brick entrepreneurs under the tax coverage, according to Mayor Jivan Khatri.

Entrepreneurs have been manufacturing clay bricks in the rented land of the farmers and selling them to kilns.

The municipality has decided to collect Rs 10,000 per site for operating clay brick business and Rs 500 per ropani of land for the manufacture of clay bricks.

Citing brick industries as major causes of pollution in Changunarayan Municipality, voices are being raised to remove such industries from the municipality.
