January 18: Biratnagar Metropolitan City’s Mayor Nagesh Koirala has instructed the metropolitan police to confiscate goods placed outside the shutters of the shops in the city. The metropolis, which has initiated a campaign to make Biratnagar clean, beautiful and orderly, has intensified the works of cleaning the city and managing traffic and parking.

A team led by Mayor Koirala conducted an on-site monitoring of the condition of parking areas and footpaths on January 16. During the monitoring, the team found that goods were kept outside the shutters of the shops. Koirala has instructed the metropolitan police to take goods kept outside the shutters under control.

"The city has repeatedly published public notices and asked people not to keep things outside the shutters," he said, adding, “You can't complain about that.”

 He also urged everyone to help the metropolis because it is the responsibility of all the citizens of Biratnagar to organize it. 

Mayor Koirala along with Deputy Mayor Shilpa Nirala Karki, Transport Management Committee Coordinator Tirthendra Neupane, head of the Revenue Division Saroj Gautam, Metropolitan Police Chief Rajan Paudel, District Traffic Police Office Morang’s Chief Raj Kumar Karki and other officials were involved in the monitoring.

In the first phase, the metropolis has already declared a no-parking zone from Jaljalachowk to Koshi Hospital Chowk. The parking management of that area is done in front of Jaljala Hall. The team also inspected the parking lot under construction at Mahaveer Road North and Old Gudri.
