Government Requests GAVI for Booster Dose

December 31: The government has initiated the process to bring booster dose in the wake of growing cases of coronavirus in the neighbouring countries.
The Ministry of Health and Population wrote to the Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunization (GAVI) in a bid to import the booster dose. Chief of the Immunization Department at the Family Welfare Division under the Department of Health Services, Sagar Dahal, informed that a letter was sent to the GAVI on Thursday for brining in 1.5 million doses of anti-COVID vaccines under the COVAX facility
"COVAX will share information on sending anti-COVID vaccines in a week," Dahal added. The government has decided to bring in Pfizer vaccine which is being used only as the booster dose. The Immunization Department wrote letter to the GAVI after the Department of Drug Administration (DDA) granted permission for the 'emergency use' of the vaccine.
The Ministry has also urged all people to take booster dose because the new variant of coronavirus, BF7, has been spreading fast in the neighbouring countries -- India and China. -- RSS
