December 16: The Ministry of Health and Population has urged one and all to take precautions as the temperature is becoming increasingly cold across the country including Kathmandu Valley.
Health Ministry Spokesperson Dr Sanjay Kumar Thakur appealed to all to be alert considering the increasing risk of infection during the cold weather. As the mercury level has started falling down continuously for the last few days, senior citizens, chronic patients, children, expecting mothers are advised to take special precautions.
The temperature of Kathmandu plummeted to as low as 7.6 degree Celsius on Friday, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. The ministry has requested the general public to keep warm and protect themselves against the increasing cold.
Furthermore, the ministry advised to take warm food and water and suggested not to stay outdoor and open area for a long time. Proper ventilation should be maintained while using heater or geyser, the ministry said.
Considering the risk of infection due to contaminated water and food, the ministry urged all to pay special attention to food intake. Washing hands before preparing and eating meal is also recommended. -- RSS
