October 13: The government is making preparations to bring an ordinance to amend the Electricity Act, 2049 aimed at opening up new avenues for power trade.
The Electricity Act, 2049 does not have the provision related to power trade. Due to the lack of such arrangement in the law, the government has not been able to give permission to the private sector for power trade.
In order to open ways for the private sector to participate in power trade, the government is making necessary preparations to amend the law.
The ordinance has been forwarded to the office of the president for consideration. According to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resource and Irrigation, the ordinance would be introduced to create ways for power trade by addressing the demand of the private sector.
It may be noted that the private sector has been demanding subsidy with the government on power trade. -- RSS
