September 14: Visiting Chief of the Chinese National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China, Li Zhanshu, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and leader of the main opposition party as well as former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday.
Li, who arrived in Nepal for a four-day official visit on Monday at the invitation of Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota, had earlier held meetings with National Assembly Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Puhspa Kamal Dahal and Foreign Minister Dr Narayan Khadka.
During his meeting with PM Deuba, the two sides discussed about bilateral trade, investment, connectivity, passenger flights, and opening border ports among other issues.
The Chinese delegation led by Li praised Nepal’s One-China Policy and the stance taken by the Government of Nepal not to allow any elements to use its territory to plot against China.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Deuba thanked China for its continued support for the development of Nepal.
Meanwhile, Li assured that the border dry ports will be opened as soon as the Covid-19 pandemic is brought under control in Tibet autonomous region of China.
Li also assured that the Chinese government will facilitate in transporting goods for the upcoming festivals.
Nepal-bound container goods ordered by Nepali importers are currently stuck across the northern border after China closed the Tatopani and Rasuwagadhi customs citing Covid-19 outbreak in Tibet.
The Chinese delegation also pledged to implement the projects in Nepal with Chinese assistance. China also promised to support Nepal graduate from LDC to developing nation.
Li will wrap up his four-day visit and return back to China on Thursday.
