September 7: Stakeholders have demanded a feasibility study for establishing a new industrial estate in Bara-Parsa Industrial Corridor due to the difficulty in acquiring land in the existing industrial area. Birgunj Chamber of Commerce has requested the Industrial District Management Limited to conduct a feasibility study to set up a new industrial estate in the region.
Upon the request from industrialists, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies has already started the process to establish a new industrial estate in this region.
Meanwhile, the Industrial District Management Limited has urged the chamber to help them in conducting the feasibility study. Vice President of Birgunj Chamber of Commerce Hari Gautam informed that they are ready to cooperate with the Industrial District Management Limited to conduct the feasibility study. Gautam said that the chamber has requested the Industrial District Management Limited to carry out the feasibility study as soon as possible.
According to Gautam, preparations are underway to conduct a feasibility study on establishing a new industrial estate in 650 bighas (47,385,000 square feet) of land in the name of a Guthi (trust) in ward number 31 of Birgunj Municipality.
The task force to conduct the study will include representatives from the Guthi corporation, Birgunj Municipality, Land Revenue Office, Land Management Office and the Land Survey Office.
The construction of the industrial estate will start after the task force submits its report to the government and the Council of Ministers approves it.
The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies had instructed the concerned authorities on April 28 to conduct a detailed study for setting up an industrial estate.
The local industrialists of Bara-Parsa Industrial Corridor have been demanding a new industrial estate due to the rising prices of land in the area as well as conflict with the locals and problems related to sewerage management. Birgunj is the biggest industrial area of the country.
