Security Guard Gurung Released

September 6: Sher Jung Gurung, a security guard of Garud Securities, who was allegedly arrested for mistreating Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Jeevan Ram Shrestha has been released on Monday evening.

Following pressure from all quarters, Gurung was released on a general date by the order of Chief District Officer Govinda Prasad Rijal.  Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand had instructed CDO Rijal to release the security guard deputed at VSF in Chhaya Centre, Thamel.

Police had arrested Gurung on Sunday on the charge of misbehaving with Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Jeevan Ram Shrestha.

A dispute ensued after Gurung asked Minister Shrestha, who had reached VSF for biometric registration, to follow the queue.

Meanwhile, Garud Securities has maintained that the security guard did not commit any mistake. The company had also filed a case at the Supreme Court demanding the release of Gurung.

Earlier, the association of labourers had demanded the release of Gurung. The association stated that it was unfortunate to arrest Gurung while he was performing his duties. The association has demanded a fair investigation into the incident.
