August 30: The Supreme Court (SC) has asked for written clarification from Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Mayor Balen Shah within seven days in response to a petition filed against the mayor on contempt of court.
Issuing a directive on the contempt of court, Justice Hari Krishna Karki on Monday asked Mayor Shah to furnish written response himself or through his representatives as per the law within seven days except for the time incurred for travel. The apex court has also asked why Mayor Shah should not be punished as per the demand of the petitioner.
The case on contempt of court was filed over the statements made by Mayor Shah on a writ petition lodged against the move of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City to demolish the infrastructure of Norvic Hospital allegedly built by encroaching upon the public land.
Advocate Dipak Raj Joshi filed the petition at the SC against Mayor Shah on the contempt of court.-- RSS
