August 25: Samsung Electronics is all set to assemble television sets of the multinational company in Nepal.
South Korea's Samsung Electronics Company Limited will collaborate with Golchha Group of Nepal to set up a television production plant with joint investment at Bhumahi in Nawalparasi district.
The plant will be a joint venture between Samsung and Golchha Group's Him Electronics. Preparation for the construction of the infrastructure of the assembling plant is currently underway.
Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Dilendra Prasad Badu laid the foundation stone of the plant amid a programme organized on Wednesday.
Initially, the plant aims to produce only television sets. Later, there are plans to increase the production based on the demand. Altogether Rs 500 million will be invested for the infrastructure development and technology of the plant, which will come into operation within the year 2023.
The company informed that thousands of television sets of different sizes and their panels will be produced daily at the plant. Moreover, the fitting of the plant will start in a few days.
After laying the foundation stone, Minister Badu said that there is conducive environment for investment in Nepal and Samsung's plant is an example of this.
Shekhar Golchha, chairman of Golchha Group, who is also the president of the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that the 22-year-long business partnership with Samsung Electronics created the environment for television production in Nepal. Golchha Group has been importing and distributing Samsung televisions in Nepal since the last two decades.
According to Golchha Group, 150 people will get direct employment in the plant which will be operated under the supervision of technicians from Samsung, South Korea.
