August 25: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has launched a drive to demolish illegally-built structures.
The KMC resorted to the move after the expiry of the 35-day public notice given to the concerned parties to remove the structures. The metropolis believes this move would resolve 25 percent problems related to vehicle parking in the city.
Those structures built without the approval of maps or those violating the approved maps were pulled down, said Sunil Lamsal, member of the Secretariat of the KMC mayor Balendra Shah.
As part of the campaign, structures built at Kathmandu Mall in Sundhara and New Road-based RB Complex were brought down with the use of dozers, he said.
Mayor Shah himself was present on the occasion. Structures built illegally at Durbar Marg were also destroyed on Wednesday, he said.
Earlier, the KMC had destroyed structures built illegally in New Baneshwar area. -- RSS
