August 17: Dr Biswo Nath Poudel, vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission, has said that the country is heading in the right direction, albeit slowly.
“The growth, the governing principles and demographic resilience are heading towards the right direction. We are making progress in various sectors. The pace may not be satisfactory, but there is progress in various key sectors,” said Dr Poudel, adding, “I urge the education sector to make its contribution toward this progress.”
Dr Poudel made such remarks while speaking at the “6th Newbiz B School Ratings, Ranking and Awards 2022”.
Krishna Prasad Adhikari, vice president of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), said that the situation of the country will not improve if there is no practical and quality education that guarantees the bright future for the students.
“We have not been able to embrace technology in our schools and colleges,” said Adhikari. “Until the education sector is not changed, we cannot imagine a change in any other sector,” he said.
Similarly, Ramesh Kumar Hamal, chairman of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON), said that the focus should be on attracting foreign students to study in Nepal’s educational institutions.
“Our Nepali students are leaving the country to study abroad or for various opportunities. If it’s globalization, there should also be arrival of foreign students in Nepal to pursue their education,” he said, calling for collective efforts toward that end.
Stating that the SEBON recently started issuing license to private equity and venture capital, he said that they could become a source of financing for those business students who want to become entrepreneurs and implement their business ideas.
“We have started a process to issue license for private equity and venture capital. They provide capital and business knowledge to ideas or startups without any collateral. For business students, this can be a new opportunity,” he added.
