February 20: The government has finally tabled the US funded project, Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact, at the federal parliament today (February 20).
Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki tabled the MCC compact at the House of Representatives on behalf of Finance Minister Janardan Sharma.
It was presented amidst difference among some lawmakers of the ruling parties including the CPN (Unified Socialist) and CPN (Maoist Centre). Even the main opposition CPN UML continued the protest during the parliament meeting criticizing the speaker of failing to take action against its 14 lawmakers who left the party.

Before tabling the MCC agenda, the ruling parties had reached an agreement to present the MCC compact in the parliament today itself. After the ruling coalition forged an agreement, the Business Advisory Committee of parliament also decided to forward the agreement.
The then government led by then prime minister KP Sharma Oli had decided to table the MCC agenda in parliament on February 8, 2019. Similarly, the then Finance Minister Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada had presented MCC compact in the parliament on July 15, 2019 for its passage. However, the ratification of MCC remained stalled due to the differences among the political parties. -- RSS
