February 20: Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has once again increased the prices of petroleum products effective from Saturday midnight (February 20).

The state-owned oil monopoly has been increasing the price of petroleum products since last July arguing that the price of oil has been increasing in the international market. This is the sixth time in the last seven months that the NOC has increased the price of petroleum products.

During last July, the price of petrol was Rs 128 per litre, which has increased to Rs 145 per litre now after the NOC hiked the price by Rs 3 per litre.

NOC has also increased the prices of diesel and kerosene by Rs 3 per litre.

With the hike in price, diesel and kerosene will now cost Rs 128 per litre.

The NOC, however, has kept the prices of cooking gas and aviation turbine fuel unchanged.

NOC's deputy spokesperson Pushkar Karki said that the NOC still has to bear a fortnightly loss of Rs 2.15 billion after increasing the price. NOC said in a statement that it has to bear a loss of Rs 16.59 for a litre of petrol, Rs 12.98 per litre of diesel and Rs 560 per cylinder of cooking gas despite the price hike.

NOC argued that the prices have been incireased in line with the revised list received from the Indian Oil Corporation as per the automatic pricing mechanism.

The last time NOC hiked the price of petroleum products was on February 1 almost three weeks ago.
