December 30: The Supreme Court has issued an interim order not to implement the decision to suspend Nepal Tourism Board’s CEO Dhananjay Regmi.

A board meeting of NTB chaired by Maheshwor Neupane, secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, who is also the chairman of the board, had suspended Regmi for his alleged altercation with customs officials at the Tribhuvan International Airport a few weeks ago. Regmi, who was appointed as the CEO for a four-year term on January 29, 2019, was suspended by the board with two years left in his term. Before the suspension, a committee was formed upon the instruction of Tourism Minister Prem Kumar Ale to investigate into the allegations labeled against CEO Regmi.

The probe committee headed by NTB vice-chairman Chandra Rijal found Regmi guilty and recommended the board for his suspension. Regmi was suspended on charges of abuse of authority, immorality, and financial irregularities.

Meanwhile, an separate investigation is underway into a complaint lodged against Regmi over financial irregularities.

Regmi is accused of paying bills for his office maintenance by misusing public procurement authority, operating a tourism project worth Rs 500 million by misusing his authority, and many other accusations relating to public procurement act.
