December 15: The General Federation of Trade Union (GFONT) has recommended the government to strictly implement the provision that makes it mandatory for employers to bear all the costs involved in course of foreign employment.
Making public a study report on the evaluation of manpower company services amidst a programme on Tuesday, GEFONT recommended the government to fully implement the provision that the employers should provide enrollment fee and expenses.
The study has found that the aspiring migrant workers are forced to pay enrollment fee of Rs 100,000 in an average. Around 98 percent of the respondents out of a total of 1,593 surveyed during the study said they paid high enrollment fee.
Less than two percent of the respondents said that they did not have to pay any enrollment fee and costs in course of foreign employment. The prevailing provision obliges the employers to bear all the expenses involved in course of the enrollment of workers in foreign employment.
It may be noted that the bilateral labour pacts signed by the government with the labour destination countries, including Jordan, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Mauritius, have provision obliging employers to bear all costs involved in foreign employment. -- RSS
