December 13: The Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) has demanded that the government implement the 10-day tourism holiday program announced in the budget as soon as possible. HAN called for the immediate implementation of the leave to help the tourism and hotel industry revive from the impact of Covid-19.

Likewise, the association has also demanded that the government pass the work procedure immediately. Shirjana Rana, president of HAN during a discussion with the Director-General of the Department of Tourism Taranath Adhikari, stressed the role of the department in the revival of the tourism and hotel industry. On the occasion, she said that the issues addressed by the budget and monetary policy of the current fiscal year have not been implemented yet and added that the department should facilitate it implementing them.

Similarly, HAN also demanded that the department should relax the Environmental Protection Act 2076, made mandatory for 25-bed hotels. HAN has demanded the department not to make the act binding as it does not seem relevant for hotels operating with a small investment to comply with the act. Similarly, the association has also asked the department to relax registration tax and renewal fee for the convenience of the tourism industry that has been badly affected by the pandemic.

HAN believes that this will support sustainable tourism. HAN also suggested that the rules and regulations need to be amended from time to time for the betterment of the tourism and hotel industry.
