December 13: Beding, a famous tourist destination in Gaurishankar rural municipality – 9 of Dolakha, has been linked to the national transmission line. The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has supplied electricity to Beding through a 24 km long transmission line from the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project site.

Meghnath Dhakal, chief of Dolakha Distribution Center of NEA, informed that the NEA has carried the national transmission line to Beding by transporting utility poles through difficult terrain. According to him, electricity meters will be distributed to the locals as soon as the transformers are connected.

According to the NEA Dolakha, 390 poles have been laid for the construction of an 1100 KV transmission line, for which Rs 30 million has been invested. The locals of Beding are now excited to get electricity after the village has been connected to the national transmission line.

A micro hydro project at Beding, located at an altitude of 3,721 meters above the sea level, has been damaged for over a decade. Hence, the locals have been depending on solar energy. There are 85 households in Beding.

Located in the foothills of Mount Gaurishankar, Beding is a settlement of the Sherpa community. Tso Rolpa can be reached in a day from here. Mostly, the travellers visiting Tso Rolpa and Rolwaling stay at Beding. So the houses of the village are mostly hotels. The Gaurishankar Conservation Area is also helping the people to operate homestay in Beding to increase their income.

As it is a tourist area, Nepal Telecom has already launched GSM mobile service in the area a few years ago. The locals of Beding hope that their life will be comfortable and trade and businesses will also flourish after their access to electricity.
