<p>Nepal is now linked with the Chinese internet service through cable network via Rasuwagadhi-Jilong Gateway.</p>

<p>Nepal Telecom and China Telecom Global Limited (CTG) had signed an agreement to operate the link in December, 2016, reads a joint statement issued by the two telecom companies.</p>

<p>So far, Nepal Telecom had been relying on internet service from operators like Bharti Airtel, Tata Communication and BSNL of India.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The commencement of the Nepal China Cross Border Optical Fiber Link and the IP services over it is unprecedented, as it is a new direct alternative route for traffic demand generated from Nepal to all over the world, and which provides better quality of service and low latency solution for end users in Nepal,&rdquo; reads the statement.</p>

<p>The Nepal China Cross Border Optical Fiber Link and the IP services was inaugurated amid a function held at the Nepal Telecom office, Kathmandu.</p>

<p>Inaugurating the service, Minister for Information and Communications Mohan Bahadur Basnet said, &ldquo;Commercialization of Nepal-China Optical Fiber Link is a major milestone for development of Internet Infrastructure in Nepal.&rdquo;</p>

<p>&nbsp;He also stressed on excellent and growing relation between the two neighboring countries. He further said that the operation of Nepal-China direct cross-border link shall prove to be a turning point for Nepal.</p>

<p>Speaking on the occasion, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong said that the cable will not only shorten the network latency, but also bring the two countries more closer to each other. She stated that the commercial operation of Nepal China Optical-fiber link marks a new connectivity between the two.</p>

<p>Inaugurating the 18<sup>th</sup> general assembly of AAN, Minister for Information and Communications Mohan Bahadur Basnet said that the government is preparing to implement &lsquo;clean feed&rsquo; policy in the communication sector. The minister said that the clean feed policy was supposed to be implemented from the start of the current fiscal year but was stalled due to various reasons. He further said that the policy will be implemented soon.</p>

<p>The construction of road from Kalikot to Humla has gained pace after almost a decade of dillydallying. Out of the total 196 kilometres of road of the Karnali Corridor project, 66 kilometers has already been completed.</p>

<p>The construction works started gaining momentum after the Nepalese Army took over the construction work. The 33-kilometre road section from Kalikot&rsquo;s Lalighat to Ghataparichaur and another 33-kilometre road section from Bajura&rsquo;s Ratadanda to Arthugechaur have been completed so far.</p>

<p>The Nepalese Army&rsquo;s construction division informed that vehicles can be operated in the 66-kilometer road which lies in between Kalokot&rsquo;s Khulalu to Humla&rsquo;s Simikot.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We are yet to blast the rocks in a four-kilometer stretch between Bhukkakhola to Tolibhir,&rdquo; said the Nepalese Army&rsquo;s in-charge Indiwar Gurung.</p>

<p>Of late, the Nepalese Army has expedited the construction work which had remained stalled in the past ten years. According to the army sources, they are planning to complete the construction works within the deadline given to them.</p>

<p>Humla is the only district which is yet to be connected to the national network of roads.</p>

<p>Nepal Rastra Bank has instructed revenue collection offices as well as bank and financial institutions to remain open on the last Saturday of certain months to ensure that the revenue collection does not get affected. The central bank issued such instruction as per the decision taken by the Ministry of Finance on September 17 to help the Revenue Management Division collect taxes during the Nepali months of Asoj, Poush, Chaitra and Asar.</p>

<p>Following the NRB instruction, the concerned government offices and BFIs will have to remain open during public holidays and on Saturdays during the last week of every third month of the fiscal year from now onwards.</p>

<p>The bike was unveiled in a launch event held at the &lsquo;Saphal Rashtriya Audhogik Byapar Mela 2074, Pokhara,&rsquo; on the of January 11. Agni Moto Inc said it will also be providing a Mojo jacket for the first few buyers on the occasion of the launch of Mojo.</p>

<p>According to the company, Mahindra Mojo is powered by a 300cc liquid cooled, EFI single-cylinder engine, which produces maximum power of 27bhp and peak torque of 30Nm. It has been developed in-house, with inputs from global partners and is designed to be on par with global products of this class.</p>

<p>Mojo comes equipped with a-state-of-the-art engine with DOHC (Double Over Head Camshaft), low friction piston and rings, advanced EFI (Electronic Fuel Ignition), iridium spark plug, resonator fitted intake system and twin exhausts, reads the statement.</p>

<p>It uses a twin tube frame with high torsional rigidity, inverted front fork with rigid triple clamp mounting and high-pressure gas charged offset rear mono-shox with separator floating piston, largest 320mm radially mounted front disc brakes and Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tyres.</p>

<p>According to the company, these features are enhanced with a 21-litre fuel tank, the largest in its class, to ensure it can cover longer distances on road effortlessly. The handlebar and footrest placement of Mojo offer an upright riding stance which enhances the comfort of long distance riding.</p>

The assistance provided under the framework of the Chinese South Asia Cooperation Assistance Fund, will reach 31,800 households in Sunsari, Saptari, Sarlahi, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Rautahat and Parsa districts of provinces 1 and 2, reads a statement issued by UNDP Nepal.</p>

<p>According to UNDP Nepal, this assistance has come as a response to the extensive damage and displacement caused by the 2017 floods in the southern plains of the country. In August last year, the tarai region experienced the heaviest rainfall recorded in the past 60 years, resulting in widespread flooding across 35 districts, taking the lives of 134 people, destroying over 43,000 houses, partially damaging 192,000 houses, and displacing tens of thousands of people. Over 80 percent of land in the southern tarai region was inundated, according to UNDP Nepal. A post-flood assessment conducted by the Government of Nepal found that 1.7 million people were affected by the disaster.</p>

<p>The project funded by China and implemented by UNDP will work in close coordination with the Government of Nepal&rsquo;s Flood Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Project under the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) through which the recovery package was finalized and beneficiary households were identified, the statement further says.</p>

<p>&nbsp;At the field level, the project will collaborate with newly elected governments in carrying out the distribution of a package of non-food items, which includes shawls, blankets, cooking utensils, an insecticide-treated bed net, a clean cooking stove, a water filter and hygiene kits.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The Government of Nepal would like to thank the People&rsquo;s Republic of China for providing crucial post-flood recovery support to the affected people of Nepal,&rdquo; said Dr Suman Kumar Karna, project chief of Flood Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Project at NRA.<br />

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong expressed satisfaction at being able to contribute to the post-flood recovery. &ldquo;Last August, the Chinese government provided USD 1 million grant assistance to the Government of Nepal for flood disaster relief. This time, we offer another USD 4 million to help the Nepali people in the flood affected tarai region recover from the disaster. We are glad to work together with UDNP to provide this recovery package, which includes some basics that are certain to prove handy in a post-flood situation, &rdquo; said the Chinese ambassador.</p>

<p>To ensure efficiency and transparency of the distribution process, UNDP is using a mobile app, developed with technical support from Microsoft that enables project staff to work seamlessly through multiple distribution channels and track the progress against set targets, using a unified database of beneficiaries. Details of individual households are recorded in the system and the heads of the households are provided with a QR card, which they must present when collecting their packages at the nearest distribution centre.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We are pleased to partner with the Government of the People&rsquo;s Republic of China in contributing to the recovery of flood affected families,&rdquo; said UNDP Country Director Renaud Meyer. &ldquo;We trust these packages of essential non-food items will help flood victims resume their livelihoods and recover rapidly from the disaster.&rdquo;</p>

<p>The highlight of the three-day festival will be the launch of Nepal Ko &ndash; a new brand of exquisite handicrafts produced by Nepali artisans, PAF said in a statement.</p>

<p>Crafts from India and Pakistan will also be showcased in this mega event at De L&rsquo; Annapurna Hotel, Durbarmarg, Kathmandu.</p>

<p>According to PAF, around 200 products categorized under 10 different skill sets will be displayed at 20 stalls -- 18 for Nepali and one each for Indian and Pakistani crafts.</p>

<p>The festival aims to promote a wide range of handicrafts produced by Nepali artisans supported by Making Markets Work for Conflict Affected in Nepal -- a PAF-implemented project.</p>

<p>The event is a marketing platform to showcase the Artisan livelihood initiatives implemented by PAF Nepal, and similar initiatives from neighboring countries. It aims to facilitate a dialogue between different stakeholders in the region, and is expected to promote cross-cultural learning and interactions.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The objective of the project is to increase the share of rural artisans &ndash; especially from the poorest, landless and conflict-affected communities &ndash; in the crafts and cultural market,&rdquo; the statement quoted PAF&rsquo;s Executive Director Nahakul KC as saying. &nbsp;</p>

<p>He added that the project has benefitted poor and disadvantaged people including women and persons with disabilities, particularly from the areas affected by the conflict and social unrest.</p>

<p>PAF has been implementing this project in seven districts (Dailekh, Dang, Dhanusha, Terhathum, Kapilvastu, Myagdi and Gorkha), enabling skilled artisans to increase their incomes and improve their livelihoods by connecting them to markets. The project is supported by the Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF) and managed by the World Bank, reads the statement.</p>

<p>Under this project, PAF has successfully impacted more than 7,500 rural artisans through 365 Producer Groups (PG) and 10 registered Producer Federations. Each PG comprises 20-25 individuals running startups and small enterprises. PAF said it has also helped set up 10 Common Facility Centers&nbsp; (CFCs) equipped with modern equipment, beside other facilities such as raw material stores that are now used by artisans to produce high quality marketable produces for the global market.</p>

<p>The handicrafts produced by the PAF-supported artisans will be showcased and sold during the festival, which will be inaugurated by Finance Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki. Visitors can explore a variety of handicrafts made with Allo (Himalayan Nettle), Lokta, wool, moonj grass and recycle papers.</p>

<p>Another key aspect of the event will be high-level panel discussions among some of the best minds of the region on a wide range of issues like village economy, women entrepreneurship and cultural industries and South Asian integration.</p>

<p>Nepal Telecom and China Telecom Global Limited (CTG) had signed an agreement to operate the link in December, 2016, reads a joint statement issued by the two telecom companies.</p>

<p>So far, Nepal Telecom had been relying on internet service from operators like Bharti Airtel, Tata Communication and BSNL of India.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The commencement of the Nepal China Cross Border Optical Fiber Link and the IP services over it is unprecedented, as it is a new direct alternative route for traffic demand generated from Nepal to all over the world, and which provides better quality of service and low latency solution for end users in Nepal,&rdquo; reads the statement.</p>

<p>The Nepal China Cross Border Optical Fiber Link and the IP services was inaugurated amid a function held at the Nepal Telecom office, Kathmandu.</p>

<p>Inaugurating the service, Minister for Information and Communications Mohan Bahadur Basnet said, &ldquo;Commercialization of Nepal-China Optical Fiber Link is a major milestone for development of Internet Infrastructure in Nepal.&rdquo;</p>

<p>&nbsp;He also stressed on excellent and growing relation between the two neighboring countries. He further said that the operation of Nepal-China direct cross-border link shall prove to be a turning point for Nepal.</p>

<p>Speaking on the occasion, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong said that the cable will not only shorten the network latency, but also bring the two countries more closer to each other. She stated that the commercial operation of Nepal China Optical-fiber link marks a new connectivity between the two.</p>

<p>Mahindra&rsquo;s Mojo is being launched simultaneously in Narayanghat, Butwal, Bhairahwa and Birtamode, and will be available across the 10-dealer network of Agni Group in Nepal, reads a press statement issued by the company.</p>

<p>The bike was unveiled in a launch event held at the &lsquo;Saphal Rashtriya Audhogik Byapar Mela 2074, Pokhara,&rsquo; on the of January 11. Agni Moto Inc said it will also be providing a Mojo jacket for the first few buyers on the occasion of the launch of Mojo.</p>

<p>According to the company, Mahindra Mojo is powered by a 300cc liquid cooled, EFI single-cylinder engine, which produces maximum power of 27bhp and peak torque of 30Nm. It has been developed in-house, with inputs from global partners and is designed to be on par with global products of this class.</p>

<p>Mojo comes equipped with a-state-of-the-art engine with DOHC (Double Over Head Camshaft), low friction piston and rings, advanced EFI (Electronic Fuel Ignition), iridium spark plug, resonator fitted intake system and twin exhausts, reads the statement.</p>

<p>It uses a twin tube frame with high torsional rigidity, inverted front fork with rigid triple clamp mounting and high-pressure gas charged offset rear mono-shox with separator floating piston, largest 320mm radially mounted front disc brakes and Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tyres.</p>

<p>According to the company, these features are enhanced with a 21-litre fuel tank, the largest in its class, to ensure it can cover longer distances on road effortlessly. The handlebar and footrest placement of Mojo offer an upright riding stance which enhances the comfort of long distance riding.</p>

The assistance provided under the framework of the Chinese South Asia Cooperation Assistance Fund, will reach 31,800 households in Sunsari, Saptari, Sarlahi, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Rautahat and Parsa districts of provinces 1 and 2, reads a statement issued by UNDP Nepal.</p>

<p>According to UNDP Nepal, this assistance has come as a response to the extensive damage and displacement caused by the 2017 floods in the southern plains of the country. In August last year, the tarai region experienced the heaviest rainfall recorded in the past 60 years, resulting in widespread flooding across 35 districts, taking the lives of 134 people, destroying over 43,000 houses, partially damaging 192,000 houses, and displacing tens of thousands of people. Over 80 percent of land in the southern tarai region was inundated, according to UNDP Nepal. A post-flood assessment conducted by the Government of Nepal found that 1.7 million people were affected by the disaster.</p>

<p>The project funded by China and implemented by UNDP will work in close coordination with the Government of Nepal&rsquo;s Flood Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Project under the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) through which the recovery package was finalized and beneficiary households were identified, the statement further says.</p>

<p>&nbsp;At the field level, the project will collaborate with newly elected governments in carrying out the distribution of a package of non-food items, which includes shawls, blankets, cooking utensils, an insecticide-treated bed net, a clean cooking stove, a water filter and hygiene kits.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The Government of Nepal would like to thank the People&rsquo;s Republic of China for providing crucial post-flood recovery support to the affected people of Nepal,&rdquo; said Dr Suman Kumar Karna, project chief of Flood Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Project at NRA.<br />

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong expressed satisfaction at being able to contribute to the post-flood recovery. &ldquo;Last August, the Chinese government provided USD 1 million grant assistance to the Government of Nepal for flood disaster relief. This time, we offer another USD 4 million to help the Nepali people in the flood affected tarai region recover from the disaster. We are glad to work together with UDNP to provide this recovery package, which includes some basics that are certain to prove handy in a post-flood situation, &rdquo; said the Chinese ambassador.</p>

<p>To ensure efficiency and transparency of the distribution process, UNDP is using a mobile app, developed with technical support from Microsoft that enables project staff to work seamlessly through multiple distribution channels and track the progress against set targets, using a unified database of beneficiaries. Details of individual households are recorded in the system and the heads of the households are provided with a QR card, which they must present when collecting their packages at the nearest distribution centre.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We are pleased to partner with the Government of the People&rsquo;s Republic of China in contributing to the recovery of flood affected families,&rdquo; said UNDP Country Director Renaud Meyer. &ldquo;We trust these packages of essential non-food items will help flood victims resume their livelihoods and recover rapidly from the disaster.&rdquo;</p>

<p>The highlight of the three-day festival will be the launch of Nepal Ko &ndash; a new brand of exquisite handicrafts produced by Nepali artisans, PAF said in a statement.</p>

<p>Crafts from India and Pakistan will also be showcased in this mega event at De L&rsquo; Annapurna Hotel, Durbarmarg, Kathmandu.</p>

<p>According to PAF, around 200 products categorized under 10 different skill sets will be displayed at 20 stalls -- 18 for Nepali and one each for Indian and Pakistani crafts.</p>

<p>The festival aims to promote a wide range of handicrafts produced by Nepali artisans supported by Making Markets Work for Conflict Affected in Nepal -- a PAF-implemented project.</p>

<p>The event is a marketing platform to showcase the Artisan livelihood initiatives implemented by PAF Nepal, and similar initiatives from neighboring countries. It aims to facilitate a dialogue between different stakeholders in the region, and is expected to promote cross-cultural learning and interactions.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The objective of the project is to increase the share of rural artisans &ndash; especially from the poorest, landless and conflict-affected communities &ndash; in the crafts and cultural market,&rdquo; the statement quoted PAF&rsquo;s Executive Director Nahakul KC as saying. &nbsp;</p>

<p>He added that the project has benefitted poor and disadvantaged people including women and persons with disabilities, particularly from the areas affected by the conflict and social unrest.</p>

<p>PAF has been implementing this project in seven districts (Dailekh, Dang, Dhanusha, Terhathum, Kapilvastu, Myagdi and Gorkha), enabling skilled artisans to increase their incomes and improve their livelihoods by connecting them to markets. The project is supported by the Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF) and managed by the World Bank, reads the statement.</p>

<p>Under this project, PAF has successfully impacted more than 7,500 rural artisans through 365 Producer Groups (PG) and 10 registered Producer Federations. Each PG comprises 20-25 individuals running startups and small enterprises. PAF said it has also helped set up 10 Common Facility Centers&nbsp; (CFCs) equipped with modern equipment, beside other facilities such as raw material stores that are now used by artisans to produce high quality marketable produces for the global market.</p>

<p>The handicrafts produced by the PAF-supported artisans will be showcased and sold during the festival, which will be inaugurated by Finance Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki. Visitors can explore a variety of handicrafts made with Allo (Himalayan Nettle), Lokta, wool, moonj grass and recycle papers.</p>

<p>Another key aspect of the event will be high-level panel discussions among some of the best minds of the region on a wide range of issues like village economy, women entrepreneurship and cultural industries and South Asian integration.</p>

<p>Inaugurating the service, Minister for Information and Communications Mohan Bahadur Basnet said, &ldquo;Commercialization of Nepal-China Optical Fiber Link is a major milestone for development of Internet Infrastructure in Nepal.&rdquo;</p>

<p>&nbsp;He also stressed on excellent and growing relation between the two neighboring countries. He further said that the operation of Nepal-China direct cross-border link shall prove to be a turning point for Nepal.</p>

<p>Speaking on the occasion, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong said that the cable will not only shorten the network latency, but also bring the two countries more closer to each other. <p>Inaugurating the 18<sup>th</sup> general assembly of AAN, Minister for Information and Communications Mohan Bahadur Basnet said that the government is preparing to implement &lsquo;clean feed&rsquo; policy in the communication sector. The minister said that the clean feed policy was supposed to be implemented from the start of the current fiscal year but was stalled due to various reasons. He further said that the policy will be implemented soon.</p>

<p>The construction of road from Kalikot to Humla has gained pace after almost a decade of dillydallying. Out of the total 196 kilometres of road of the Karnali Corridor project, 66 kilometers has already been completed.</p>

<p>The construction works started gaining momentum after the Nepalese Army took over the construction work. The 33-kilometre road section from Kalikot&rsquo;s Lalighat to Ghataparichaur and another 33-kilometre road section from Bajura&rsquo;s Ratadanda to Arthugechaur have been completed so far.</p>

<p>The Nepalese Army&rsquo;s construction division informed that vehicles can be operated in the 66-kilometer road which lies in between Kalokot&rsquo;s Khulalu to Humla&rsquo;s Simikot.</p>

<p>According to the company, Mahindra Mojo is powered by a 300cc liquid cooled, EFI single-cylinder engine, which produces maximum power of 27bhp and peak torque of 30Nm. It has been developed in-house, with inputs from global partners and is designed to be on par with global products of this class.</p>

<p>Mojo comes equipped with a-state-of-the-art engine with DOHC (Double Over Head Camshaft), low friction piston and rings, advanced EFI (Electronic Fuel Ignition), iridium spark plug, resonator fitted intake system and twin exhausts, reads the statement.</p>

<p>It uses a twin tube frame with high torsional rigidity, inverted front fork with rigid triple clamp mounting and high-pressure gas charged offset rear mono-shox with separator floating piston, largest 320mm radially mounted front disc brakes and Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tyres.</p>

<p>According to the company, these features are enhanced with a 21-litre fuel tank, the largest in its class, to ensure it can cover longer distances on road effortlessly. The handlebar and footrest placement of Mojo offer an upright riding stance which enhances the comfort of long distance riding.</p>

The assistance provided under the framework of the Chinese South Asia Cooperation Assistance Fund, will reach 31,800 households in Sunsari, Saptari, Sarlahi, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Rautahat and Parsa districts of provinces 1 and 2, reads a statement issued by UNDP Nepal.</p>

<p>According to UNDP Nepal, this assistance has come as a response to the extensive damage and displacement caused by the 2017 floods in the southern plains of the country. In August last year, the tarai region experienced the heaviest rainfall recorded in the past 60 years, resulting in widespread flooding across 35 districts, taking the lives of 134 people, destroying over 43,000 houses, partially damaging 192,000 houses, and displacing tens of thousands of people. Over 80 percent of land in the southern tarai region was inundated, according to UNDP Nepal. A post-flood assessment conducted by the Government of Nepal found that 1.7 million people were affected by the disaster.</p>

<p>The project funded by China and implemented by UNDP will work in close coordination with the Government of Nepal&rsquo;s Flood Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Project under the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) through which the recovery package was finalized and beneficiary households were identified, the statement further says.</p>

<p>&nbsp;At the field level, the project will collaborate with newly elected governments in carrying out the distribution of a package of non-food items, which includes shawls, blankets, cooking utensils, an insecticide-treated bed net, a clean cooking stove, a water filter and hygiene kits.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The Government of Nepal would like to thank the People&rsquo;s Republic of China for providing crucial post-flood recovery support to the affected people of Nepal,&rdquo; said Dr Suman Kumar Karna, project chief of Flood Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Project at NRA.<br />
&nbsp;<br />
Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong expressed satisfaction at being able to contribute to the post-flood recovery. &ldquo;Last August, the Chinese government provided USD 1 million grant assistance to the Government of Nepal for flood disaster relief. This time, we offer another USD 4 million to help the Nepali people in the flood affected tarai region recover from the disaster. We are glad to work together with UDNP to provide this recovery package, which includes some basics that are certain to prove handy in a post-flood situation, &rdquo; said the Chinese ambassador.</p>

<p>To ensure efficiency and transparency of the distribution process, UNDP is using a mobile app, developed with technical support from Microsoft that enables project staff to work seamlessly through multiple distribution channels and track the progress against set targets, using a unified database of beneficiaries. Details of individual households are recorded in the system and the heads of the households are provided with a QR card, which they must present when collecting their packages at the nearest distribution centre.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We are pleased to partner with the Government of the People&rsquo;s Republic of China in contributing to the recovery of flood affected families,&rdquo; said UNDP Country Director Renaud Meyer. &ldquo;We trust these packages of essential non-food items will help flood victims resume their livelihoods and recover rapidly from the disaster.&rdquo;</p>

<p>The highlight of the three-day festival will be the launch of Nepal Ko &ndash; a new brand of exquisite handicrafts produced by Nepali artisans, PAF said in a statement.</p>

<p>Crafts from India and Pakistan will also be showcased in this mega event at De L&rsquo; Annapurna Hotel, Durbarmarg, Kathmandu.</p>

<p>According to PAF, around 200 products categorized under 10 different skill sets will be displayed at 20 stalls -- 18 for Nepali and one each for Indian and Pakistani crafts.</p>

<p>The festival aims to promote a wide range of handicrafts produced by Nepali artisans supported by Making Markets Work for Conflict Affected in Nepal -- a PAF-implemented project.</p>

<p>The event is a marketing platform to showcase the Artisan livelihood initiatives implemented by PAF Nepal, and similar initiatives from neighboring countries. It aims to facilitate a dialogue between different stakeholders in the region, and is expected to promote cross-cultural learning and interactions.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The objective of the project is to increase the share of rural artisans &ndash; especially from the poorest, landless and conflict-affected communities &ndash; in the crafts and cultural market,&rdquo; the statement quoted PAF&rsquo;s Executive Director Nahakul KC as saying. &nbsp;</p>

<p>He added that the project has benefitted poor and disadvantaged people including women and persons with disabilities, particularly from the areas affected by the conflict and social unrest.</p>

<p>PAF has been implementing this project in seven districts (Dailekh, Dang, Dhanusha, Terhathum, Kapilvastu, Myagdi and Gorkha), enabling skilled artisans to increase their incomes and improve their livelihoods by connecting them to markets. The project is supported by the Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF) and managed by the World Bank, reads the statement.</p>

<p>Under this project, PAF has successfully impacted more than 7,500 rural artisans through 365 Producer Groups (PG) and 10 registered Producer Federations. Each PG comprises 20-25 individuals running startups and small enterprises. PAF said it has also helped set up 10 Common Facility Centers&nbsp; (CFCs) equipped with modern equipment, beside other facilities such as raw material stores that are now used by artisans to produce high quality marketable produces for the global market.</p>

<p>The handicrafts produced by the PAF-supported artisans will be showcased and sold during the festival, which will be inaugurated by Finance Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki. Visitors can explore a variety of handicrafts made with Allo (Himalayan Nettle), Lokta, wool, moonj grass and recycle papers.</p>

<p>Another key aspect of the event will be high-level panel discussions among some of the best minds of the region on a wide range of issues like village economy, women entrepreneurship and cultural industries and South Asian integration.</p>

<p>Nepal is now linked with the Chinese internet service through cable network via Rasuwagadhi-Jilong Gateway.</p>

<p>Nepal Telecom and China Telecom Global Limited (CTG) had signed an agreement to operate the link in December, 2016, reads a joint statement issued by the two telecom companies.</p>

<p>So far, Nepal Telecom had been relying on internet service from operators like Bharti Airtel, Tata Communication and BSNL of India.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The commencement of the Nepal China Cross Border Optical Fiber Link and the IP services over it is unprecedented, as it is a new direct alternative route for traffic demand generated from Nepal to all over the world, and which provides better quality of service and low latency solution for end users in Nepal,&rdquo; reads the statement.</p>

<p>The Nepal China Cross Border Optical Fiber Link and the IP services was inaugurated amid a function held at the Nepal Telecom office, Kathmandu.</p>

<p>Inaugurating the service, Minister for Information and Communications Mohan Bahadur Basnet said, &ldquo;Commercialization of Nepal-China Optical Fiber Link is a major milestone for development of Internet Infrastructure in Nepal.&rdquo;</p>

<p>&nbsp;He also stressed on excellent and growing relation between the two neighboring countries. He further said that the operation of Nepal-China direct cross-border link shall prove to be a turning point for Nepal.</p>

<p>Speaking on the occasion, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong said that the cable will not only shorten the network latency, but also bring the two countries more closer to each other. She stated that the commercial operation of Nepal China Optical-fiber link marks a new connectivity between the two.</p>

<p>Inaugurating the 18<sup>th</sup> general assembly of AAN, Minister for Information and Communications Mohan Bahadur Basnet said that the government is preparing to implement &lsquo;clean feed&rsquo; policy in the communication sector. The minister said that the clean feed policy was supposed to be implemented from the start of the current fiscal year but was stalled due to various reasons. He further said that the policy will be implemented soon.</p>

<p>The construction of road from Kalikot to Humla has gained pace after almost a decade of dillydallying. Out of the total 196 kilometres of road of the Karnali Corridor project, 66 kilometers has already been completed.</p>

<p>The construction works started gaining momentum after the Nepalese Army took over the construction work. The 33-kilometre road section from Kalikot&rsquo;s Lalighat to Ghataparichaur and another 33-kilometre road section from Bajura&rsquo;s Ratadanda to Arthugechaur have been completed so far.</p>

<p>The Nepalese Army&rsquo;s construction division informed that vehicles can be operated in the 66-kilometer road which lies in between Kalokot&rsquo;s Khulalu to Humla&rsquo;s Simikot.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We are yet to blast the rocks in a four-kilometer stretch between Bhukkakhola to Tolibhir,&rdquo; said the Nepalese Army&rsquo;s in-charge Indiwar Gurung.</p>

<p>Of late, the Nepalese Army has expedited the construction work which had remained stalled in the past ten years. According to the army sources, they are planning to complete the construction works within the deadline given to them.</p>

<p>Humla is the only district which is yet to be connected to the national network of roads.</p>

<p>Nepal Rastra Bank has instructed revenue collection offices as well as bank and financial institutions to remain open on the last Saturday of certain months to ensure that the revenue collection does not get affected. The central bank issued such instruction as per the decision taken by the Ministry of Finance on September 17 to help the Revenue Management Division collect taxes during the Nepali months of Asoj, Poush, Chaitra and Asar.</p>

<p>Following the NRB instruction, the concerned government offices and BFIs will have to remain open during public holidays and on Saturdays during the last week of every third month of the fiscal year from now onwards.</p>

<p>The bike was unveiled in a launch event held at the &lsquo;Saphal Rashtriya Audhogik Byapar Mela 2074, Pokhara,&rsquo; on the of January 11. Agni Moto Inc said it will also be providing a Mojo jacket for the first few buyers on the occasion of the launch of Mojo.</p>

<p>According to the company, Mahindra Mojo is powered by a 300cc liquid cooled, EFI single-cylinder engine, which produces maximum power of 27bhp and peak torque of 30Nm. It has been developed in-house, with inputs from global partners and is designed to be on par with global products of this class.</p>

<p>Mojo comes equipped with a-state-of-the-art engine with DOHC (Double Over Head Camshaft), low friction piston and rings, advanced EFI (Electronic Fuel Ignition), iridium spark plug, resonator fitted intake system and twin exhausts, reads the statement.</p>

<p>It uses a twin tube frame with high torsional rigidity, inverted front fork with rigid triple clamp mounting and high-pressure gas charged offset rear mono-shox with separator floating piston, largest 320mm radially mounted front disc brakes and Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tyres.</p>

<p>According to the company, these features are enhanced with a 21-litre fuel tank, the largest in its class, to ensure it can cover longer distances on road effortlessly. The handlebar and footrest placement of Mojo offer an upright riding stance which enhances the comfort of long distance riding.</p>

The assistance provided under the framework of the Chinese South Asia Cooperation Assistance Fund, will reach 31,800 households in Sunsari, Saptari, Sarlahi, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Rautahat and Parsa districts of provinces 1 and 2, reads a statement issued by UNDP Nepal.</p>

<p>According to UNDP Nepal, this assistance has come as a response to the extensive damage and displacement caused by the 2017 floods in the southern plains of the country. In August last year, the tarai region experienced the heaviest rainfall recorded in the past 60 years, resulting in widespread flooding across 35 districts, taking the lives of 134 people, destroying over 43,000 houses, partially damaging 192,000 houses, and displacing tens of thousands of people. Over 80 percent of land in the southern tarai region was inundated, according to UNDP Nepal. A post-flood assessment conducted by the Government of Nepal found that 1.7 million people were affected by the disaster.</p>

<p>The project funded by China and implemented by UNDP will work in close coordination with the Government of Nepal&rsquo;s Flood Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Project under the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) through which the recovery package was finalized and beneficiary households were identified, the statement further says.</p>

<p>&nbsp;At the field level, the project will collaborate with newly elected governments in carrying out the distribution of a package of non-food items, which includes shawls, blankets, cooking utensils, an insecticide-treated bed net, a clean cooking stove, a water filter and hygiene kits.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The Government of Nepal would like to thank the People&rsquo;s Republic of China for providing crucial post-flood recovery support to the affected people of Nepal,&rdquo; said Dr Suman Kumar Karna, project chief of Flood Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Project at NRA.<br />

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong expressed satisfaction at being able to contribute to the post-flood recovery. &ldquo;Last August, the Chinese government provided USD 1 million grant assistance to the Government of Nepal for flood disaster relief. This time, we offer another USD 4 million to help the Nepali people in the flood affected tarai region recover from the disaster. We are glad to work together with UDNP to provide this recovery package, which includes some basics that are certain to prove handy in a post-flood situation, &rdquo; said the Chinese ambassador.</p>

<p>To ensure efficiency and transparency of the distribution process, UNDP is using a mobile app, developed with technical support from Microsoft that enables project staff to work seamlessly through multiple distribution channels and track the progress against set targets, using a unified database of beneficiaries. Details of individual households are recorded in the system and the heads of the households are provided with a QR card, which they must present when collecting their packages at the nearest distribution centre.</p>

<p>&ldquo;We are pleased to partner with the Government of the People&rsquo;s Republic of China in contributing to the recovery of flood affected families,&rdquo; said UNDP Country Director Renaud Meyer. &ldquo;We trust these packages of essential non-food items will help flood victims resume their livelihoods and recover rapidly from the disaster.&rdquo;</p>

<p>The highlight of the three-day festival will be the launch of Nepal Ko &ndash; a new brand of exquisite handicrafts produced by Nepali artisans, PAF said in a statement.</p>

<p>Crafts from India and Pakistan will also be showcased in this mega event at De L&rsquo; Annapurna Hotel, Durbarmarg, Kathmandu.</p>

<p>According to PAF, around 200 products categorized under 10 different skill sets will be displayed at 20 stalls -- 18 for Nepali and one each for Indian and Pakistani crafts.</p>

<p>The festival aims to promote a wide range of handicrafts produced by Nepali artisans supported by Making Markets Work for Conflict Affected in Nepal -- a PAF-implemented project.</p>

<p>The event is a marketing platform to showcase the Artisan livelihood initiatives implemented by PAF Nepal, and similar initiatives from neighboring countries. It aims to facilitate a dialogue between different stakeholders in the region, and is expected to promote cross-cultural learning and interactions.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The objective of the project is to increase the share of rural artisans &ndash; especially from the poorest, landless and conflict-affected communities &ndash; in the crafts and cultural market,&rdquo; the statement quoted PAF&rsquo;s Executive Director Nahakul KC as saying. &nbsp;</p>

<p>He added that the project has benefitted poor and disadvantaged people including women and persons with disabilities, particularly from the areas affected by the conflict and social unrest.</p>

<p>PAF has been implementing this project in seven districts (Dailekh, Dang, Dhanusha, Terhathum, Kapilvastu, Myagdi and Gorkha), enabling skilled artisans to increase their incomes and improve their livelihoods by connecting them to markets. The project is supported by the Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF) and managed by the World Bank, reads the statement.</p>

<p>Under this project, PAF has successfully impacted more than 7,500 rural artisans through 365 Producer Groups (PG) and 10 registered Producer Federations. Each PG comprises 20-25 individuals running startups and small enterprises. PAF said it has also helped set up 10 Common Facility Centers&nbsp; (CFCs) equipped with modern equipment, beside other facilities such as raw material stores that are now used by artisans to produce high quality marketable produces for the global market.</p>

<p>The handicrafts produced by the PAF-supported artisans will be showcased and sold during the festival, which will be inaugurated by Finance Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki. Visitors can explore a variety of handicrafts made with Allo (Himalayan Nettle), Lokta, wool, moonj grass and recycle papers.</p>

<p>Another key aspect of the event will be high-level panel discussions among some of the best minds of the region on a wide range of issues like village economy, women entrepreneurship and cultural industries and South Asian integration.</p>

<p>Earlier, it was said that the construction of the project would be completed after the Tihar festival but it took two more months to complete the project.</p>

<p>The project started in 2007 and was initially said to be completed within five years. A total of Rs 16 billion has been invested in the project.&nbsp;</p>
